Roots is an intentional process of faith formation for middle school students.  Roots offers a process to help its participants grow in understanding and internalize their faith in God.  As a church, we help guide, direct, teach, lead, share, and encourage young people along their faith journeys; each person’s journey is their own.

Roots in comprised of two interwoven and equally important components:  an education component and a discipleship component.  Active participation in both components of this program provides young people with the tools they need to grow in faith.  Together, these two components provide a broad foundation on which to build and strengthen faith and a relationship with God.

Education:

Roots classes meet in the Youth Room on Sunday mornings, from 9:45—10:45, September through May.  Lessons help prepare each student to better understand the teachings of the church and to profess, with confidence, his/her desire to continue in the covenant God made with them in Holy Baptism.

Discipleship:

Roots helps prepare young people for living an active faith.  As Christians, we are called to serve others, to participate and lead in worship, to study the scriptures and proclaim the gospel, and to be in fellowship with fellow Christians.  St. Paul provides young people with the guidance, leadership, structure, and encouragement the need to participate fully in our call as Christians.

Mentors:

Following Roots’ three year course of study and discipleship, students are paired with an adult member of the congregation a mentoring relationship.  Mentors are active members of the congregation who agree to walk the confirmation journey with their student.  Together, the mentor and student develop the student’s Statement of Faith, which will be shared with the congregation during the rite of Afffirmation of  Baptism:  Confirmation.
