It is expected that the lector will prepare by carefully reading the lesson to clearly understand the lesson. Then practice by adding inflections, changing the pace of the reading, adding pauses where appropriate to make the message come to life and be easily understood by the congregation. The reading should almost be a dramatic presentation to give it sructure and meaning to the listeners. Most lectors read about two-three Sundays a year.
