KAMP
is a YOUTH GROUP! Actually,
its two
youth
groups in one: one for elementary school kids and one for middle school
kids. Elementary school kids (K—5th grade) are called KAMPers
and middle school kids are called KAMP Kounselors. As the
name implies, part of the middle school role is to lead the younger
kids by acting as a “big brother” or “big sister” to a younger KAMPer
for part of the evening. But each group will also enjoy their own
activities each week to help them form a cohesive and supportive group
of friends their own age.
KAMP
is FUN! We’ll start
off each week with a few goofy games and wild stunts that will be fun
for everyone. This will give the kids a great opportunity to get to
know each other better and build new and lasting relationships with one
another
KAMP
is SERVING! We’ll spend
time each week learning about the needs of the community.
Then, we’ll get our hands busy and get to work! Some of the
service ideas include collecting food for the Northern Illinois Food
Bank and the People Resource Center, preparing care kits for homebound
seniors, cooking and sharing a meal with PADS, raising funds to
purchase medical supplies for a clinic in Haiti, creating toys and
habitats for sheltered animals,
taking care of our local environment, and creating birthday celebration
boxes for needy children — just to name a few! This will help focus the
kids’ call to share God’s love by helping their neighbor and will help
give them a meaningful sense of purpose.
KAMP
is PRAISE! Finally,
KAMP is all about having fun while learning to praise God in
new and exciting ways. We’ll use a variety of musical instruments —
from bells and chimes to drum circles and a variety of rhythm
instruments — to create a joyful noise to the Lord. We’ll lift our
voices in song and put our creative energies to work in a variety of
skits and “readers’ theater” scripts. And once a month (or so) we’ll
share our creative praise with the congregation during worship, helping
the kids to more actively participate and understand our Sunday worship
services.
