associate pastor mark williamson
I've been serving as St. Paul's Associate Pastor since 2007. I share in the duties of preaching, worship leadership, and pastoral care here, and I provide pastoral leadership for our faith formation and outreach ministries.
I grew up in Palatine, in the northwest Chicago suburbs. Baptized at a month old, the road of discipleship I've traveled so far has run through the Lutheran (LCMS) church and school of my childhood, the student ministries of Willow Creek Community Church, Valparaiso University (including a semester abroad a Oak Hill Theological College in London), and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to ordination, I served a two-year pastoral residency at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Minnesota and spent a year in Mexico and Central America on Luther Sem's Graduate Preaching Fellowship, including a role on the pastoral team of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Mexico City and volunteer work with the Mexican Association for Rural and Urban Transformation (AMEXTRA).
To my ministry at St. Paul, I bring a strong commitment to lifelong faith formation--investing in people as growing disciples of Jesus at every age and stage of life. I believe we largely learn to trust, love, and follow Christ through the example of others, in the context of apprenticing relationships and faith-based friendships. So one priority for me at St. Paul has been to try to surround our children and youth with as many caring, mentoring relationship as possible. Another has been to make sure that folks who are just beginning to explore the Way of Christ or are seeking to reconnect with faith after time away will find a hospitable environment to bring their questions, learn the Story of the Bible, and try out Christian practices with the support of others.
Besides pastoring, my other callings include husband to Jennifer and father to our young daughter Hope. For fun, I play tennis, enjoy the outdoors, read a lot, and cheer on the Cubs.
